This study examines the landscape of learning tarannum al-Qur’an in Malaysia, which represents a significant aspect of preserving the artistic tradition of Qur’anic recitation within Malay society. The learning of tarannum has long been an established tradition in Islamic education in the country, evolving from traditional pedagogical methods to adaptations incorporating contemporary approaches. Despite the strong enthusiasm among the community to master this art of recitation, the process of learning tarannum in Malaysia is not without various challenges that require attention and strategic solutions. The primary objectives of this study are to: (1) examine the methods of tarannum learning practiced within Malaysian communities; (2) investigate the challenges faced by individuals in learning tarannum; and (3) obtain recommendations for improving the tarannum learning process in Malaysia. From a methodological perspective, this study adopts a quantitative approach, employing a comprehensive literature review design alongside selected survey questionnaires administered to individuals with diverse backgrounds in tarannum learning across Malaysia. Emphasis is placed on their practical experiences in the learning process and the challenges encountered while engaging with the art of tarannum. The findings indicate that tarannum learning in Malaysia continues to retain traditional methods while simultaneously adapting to current technological advancements throughout the learning process. Among the primary challenges identified are time constraints, a shortage of qualified teachers and structured classes, and difficulties in understanding the technical aspects of tarannum. These challenges must be addressed promptly to create a more conducive and comprehensive learning environment, ultimately producing a new generation of skilled qari and qariah.

Abstrak
Kajian ini meneliti landskap pembelajaran tarannum al-Quran di Malaysia, yang merupakan salah satu aspek penting dalam memelihara kesenian bacaan al-Quran dalam masyarakat Melayu. Pembelajaran tarannum telah lama menjadi tradisi dalam pendidikan Islam di negara ini, bermula dari kaedah pengajian tradisional sehingga adaptasi kepada pendekatan kontemporari. Walaupun terdapat kesungguhan yang tinggi dalam kalangan masyarakat untuk menguasai seni bacaan ini, proses pembelajaran tarannum di Malaysia tidak terlepas daripada pelbagai cabaran yang memerlukan perhatian dan penyelesaian strategik. Objektif utama kajian ini adalah untuk: 1) meninjau kaedah pembelajaran tarannum yang diamalkan oleh komuniti di Malaysia; 2) mengkaji cabaran-cabaran yang dihadapi oleh masyarakat dalam mempelajari tarannum; 3) mendapatkan cadangan penambahbaikan terhadap proses pembelajaran tarannum di Malaysia. Dari aspek metodologi, kajian ini akan mengguna pakai pendekatan kuantitatif dengan reka bentuk tinjauan literatur yang komprehensif, soal selidik terpilih kepada individu-individu yang mempunyai latar belakang pembelajaran tarannum yang berbeza di Malaysia. Penekanan akan diberikan kepada pengalaman praktikal mereka terhadap proses pembelajaran dan cabaran yang dihadapi sewaktu mendalami seni tarannum. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa pembelajaran tarannum di Malaysia masih mengekalkan kaedah tradisional disamping mengadaptasi kemajuan teknologi semasa sepanjang proses pembelajaran berlangsung. Di antara cabaran utama pembelajaran tarannum masa kini ialah kekangan masa, kekurangan guru dan kelas serta kesukaran memahami teknik-teknik dalam seni tarannum. Cabaran-cabaran ini perlu diatasi dengan segera bagi menyediakan suasana pembelajaran tarannum yang lebih kondusif dan komprehensif demi melahirkan genarasi qari dan qariah yang berkemahiran.
