https://jqss.usim.edu.my/index.php/jqss/article/view/214

Madrasah Alsagoff Al-Arabiah was built in 1912. Amongst the six madrasahs in Singapore, it is the oldest Islamic school established there. Reaching 111 years old as of 2023, it contains a rich history behind how it was built, its mission and vision, the education system, and its achievements. However, there seems to be a general perceivement amongst the public who thought of madrasahs as a school that focuses only on Islamic subjects when that is not the case. All 6 madrasahs in Singapore strive to offer a holistic educational programme that aims to empower its students with a strong Islamic and secular background. Hence, this study is conducted to look into and analyse the history of Madrasah Alsagoff Al-Arabiah. This includes its background, founder, the alumni, the graduates and much more. This study implements a qualitative approach and uses document analysis. The results of this study shows that the intention behind the establishment of this madrasah is to produce graduates with excellent Islamic qualities through a dual education system that combines secular and religious learning. In conclusion, this study is able to shine light upon its significance in moulding and nourishing a successful Malay Muslim community in Singapore.
Syed Najihuddin Syed HassanSakinah Abdul MutalibNur Izaty Abdullah ChikNur Irdina Mohammad Irwan

https://jqss.usim.edu.my/index.php/jqss/article/view/225

Raising public awareness about People with Disabilities (PWD) requires addressing

accessibility challenges within the educational systems of higher education institutions (HEIs).

Advocacy efforts and ensuring equal opportunities for PWD demand serious attention. This study

examines the role of academic staff, focusing on fostering an understanding of the needs of PWD

within HEIs using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews. Five participants were

selected, including academic faculty who work closely with PWD students and PWD students

from various disability categories, such as visual and auditory impairments. The findings indicate

that the ability of academic staff in HEIs is perceived as limited due to insufficient knowledge

of teaching practices. Additionally, the lack of necessary resources and support for PWD students

poses significant challenges for academic staff. Consequently, the study explores the challenges and

responsibilities of educators in incorporating specialized education into higher education. Addressing

these challenges is crucial in strengthening intervention efforts and promoting inclusive discussions

aimed at raising awareness of PWD issues in society.
Hazlin Falina RosliSafura Ahmad SabriNur Fikhriah Takril

https://jqss.usim.edu.my/index.php/jqss/article/view/223

Students with learning disabilities are students who have various types of challenges in the learning process such as speech, communication and concentration. These challenges have an impact on their achievement in learning the Quran in school. Due to the limited ability of the students, teachers need to choose teaching strategies that are suitable for students in order for learning to be effectively delivered.
The objective of this study is to explore teaching strategies that teachers can use to teach students with disabilities the Quran. The qualitative study uses the document analysis method by examining the Standard Curriculum of Special Education Primary School for students with learning disabilities, the Code of Practice for Special Education for Special Needs Students and the Education (Special Education) Regulations 2013 in Article 8 issued by the relevant Federal Government Gazette with teaching strategies that teachers can use to teach students with learning disabilities. The results of the study found that teachers can use various strategies in teaching the Quran to students with learning disabilities such as student-centred strategies, teacher-centred strategies, material-centred strategies and differentiated teaching strategies. This study suggests that teachers diversify their teaching strategies in teaching Quran for students with learning disabilities.

Nurul Afisah HussinIzuli DzulkifliMohd Nazri Ahmad

https://jqss.usim.edu.my/index.php/jqss/article/view/237

Children with autism often face challenges in communication and social interaction, which can hinder their learning process, particularly in understanding Islamic values and manners. This study aims to develop a narrative video that focuses on teaching play manners in Islam to children with autism. The video is designed using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) instructional design model, which provides a structured framework for creating effective educational materials. The tools that used are IbisPaint, FlipaClip, Canva and Capcut for creating a storytelling video. The development process emphasizes the potential of narrative videos, enriched with visual and graphic elements, to enhance the engagement and comprehension of children with autism. A qualitative approach was employed for data collection and analysis, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the target audience’s needs. Structured interviews were conducted with four respondents comprising parents and educators of autistic children to gather feedback and evaluations on the suitability of the produced storytelling video. The findings are expected to benefit parents, educators, and institutions by providing an innovative tool to support the integration of Islamic manners into the daily lives of children with autism.
Maisarah SaidinNur Fatimatul Insyirah ShamsudinNur Shafika ArifinMuhammad Nassem Mohamed Ghazali

https://jqss.usim.edu.my/index.php/jqss/article/view/213

This study aims to assess the applicability of the Braille Early Reading Skills module based on the a-J+3+6 method for children with visual impairment (CVI) preschool. The main issue under discussion was the absence of specific and structured teaching modules to assist CVI in mastering braille early reading skills during the early stages of education. This is necessary to address deficiencies in fundamental skills such as letter recognition, syllable-sounding, and word-reading. The objective of this study was to assess the level of mastery of CVI in early Braille reading skills as well as teachers' views on the applicability of the module. This study used a qualitative approach that included observational methods, semi-structured interviews with preschool teachers, and analysis of CVI worksheet documents. The findings showed a significant improvement in the mastery of braille early reading skills, with study participants showing progress in letter recognition skills, open syllable sounding skills, and open two-syllable word reading skills. The teachers also noted that this module can assist them in implementing a more structured and effective teaching process. The main contribution of this study is the preparation of modules that are in line with the National Preschool Standard Curriculum for Special Education and support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4), which emphasize quality and inclusive education. However, the limitations of the study, including the small sample size and short duration, require further studies with a wider scope and a longer-term evaluation to confirm the effectiveness of this module.

Azizah AwangIntan Farahana Abdul RaniKway Eng Hock

https://jqss.usim.edu.my/index.php/jqss/article/view/219

This study explores the practice of special education preschool teachers on the readiness of preschool students with special educational needs (MBPK) for the inclusive education program year 1. This study uses a qualitative approach. A total of eight special education preschool teachers were selected as survey respondents. The choice is based on their three years of teaching experience in a special education preschool. The study's results showed the effectiveness of teacher readiness practices, teacher assessment practices, and teacher intervention practices in determining the level of readiness of preschool special needs students for the Inclusive Programme year 1. Weaknesses in identifying pupils' problems in basic skills and current levels of development, delay the implementation of early interventions on pupils. Therefore, through this study, the relevant parties should be responsible for providing a school readiness assessment instrument for preschool special needs students with complete guidelines to assist in implementing more effective early intervention by teachers. This is because the readiness of preschool special needs students is very important to achieve high potential during year 1 at primary school.

Siti Qatrunnada Hanis ShariffKhairul Farhah Khairuddin
