Abstract

The contemporary mental health crisis has shown an alarming increase, particularly due to life stressors, emotional imbalance, and the weakening of spiritual support systems. In this context, Qur’an-based approaches are viewed as a form of holistic therapy with the potential to help individuals develop resilience against mental stress. However, Qur’anic therapeutic practices have not yet been systematically explored from the perspective of modern psychology, resulting in a persistent gap between spiritual treatment and mental health science. Therefore, this study aims to identify effective Qur’anic therapy approaches in fostering resilience to mental stress and to examine the spiritual mechanisms that contribute to individuals’ emotional well-being. This study adopts a qualitative research design using content analysis of Qur’anic verses related to inner tranquility, patience (ṣabr), gratitude (shukr), and reliance on God (tawakkul), supported by classical Arabic texts and contemporary psychological studies. The findings indicate that Qur’anic therapy enhances mental resilience through three main components: (1) strengthening meaning and spiritual awareness (tazakkur), (2) emotional regulation through the recitation and listening of specific Qur’anic verses, and (3) reinforcement of positive values such as patience, acceptance (riḍā), and gratitude. This approach not only strengthens individuals’ capacity to withstand mental stress but also reconnects human beings with the ultimate source of tranquility—namely, their relationship with Allah (SWT). The study recommends that Qur’anic therapeutic approaches be scientifically integrated with modern psychological interventions to develop a more comprehensive and effective contemporary Islamic therapeutic model.
