Abstract

Inclusive education in Malaysia requires assistive technologies for students with visual impairments. This PRISMA guided systematic literature review (SLR) examines the use of screen readers (JAWS, NVDA), smart Braille displays and embossers, and voice based tools such as Seeing AI. Searches were conducted in Google Scholar, Web of Science and ScienceDirect Scopus. Thirty studies were identified and fifteen met the inclusion criteria. The synthesis highlights key constraints, including limited school digital infrastructure, insufficient teacher training and high device costs, with challenges more evident during and after COVID-19. The review recommends systematic deployment of voice based assistive tools, continuous professional development for teachers and stronger public private partnerships to widen access and improve learning outcomes in Malaysia.
