Accessibility in the education system for the Disabled (OKU) at the tertiary level has become the talk and attention at the university level to raise awareness of this group. Awareness of the disabilities of this group is very important in fighting for their rights and giving them equal opportunities. This study is a necessary problem in academics in creating awareness of the needs of the disabled in Institutions of Higher Learning (IPT). This study uses a qualitative research method of in-depth interviews with eleven (11) respondents consisting of six (6) academic students who teach students with disabilities and five (5) students with disabilities using the categories of visual impairment, hearing and other categories. Competency study in two IPTs at the Selangor International Islamic University College (KUIS) and the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Polytechnic. The findings obtained from the search for academic students in IPT are still at a low level. This is because there is still a lack of knowledge and needs required when dealing with students with disabilities in IPT. So in this study, the researcher will unravel the challenges and energy of teachers in realizing special education at the IPT level. This is because of the increasing number of disabilities, therefore, it is very important for more intervention programs and comprehensive discussions supported to increase awareness of relationships in the community.
Abstrak
Kebolehcapaian dalam sistem pengajaran dan pembelajaran Orang Kurang Upaya (OKU) di institusi pengajian tinggi telah menjadi bualan dan perhatian di peringkat universiti untuk meningkatkan kesedaran terhadap golongan ini. Kesedaran mengenai kecacatan golongan ini sangat penting dalam memperjuangkan hak dan memberikan peluang yang sama rata kepada mereka. Kajian ini menilai peranan kakitangan akademik dalam mewujudkan kesedaran terhadap keperluan OKU di Insitusi Pengajian Tinggi (IPT). Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kajian kualitatif iaitu temu bual mendalam dengan sebelas (11) orang responden yang terdiri daripada enam (6) orang kakitangan akademik yang mengajar pelajar OKU dan lima (5) orang pelajar OKU daripada kategori cacat penglihatan, pendengaran dan lain-lain kategori. Kajian melibatkan perbandingan di dua IPT iaitu Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS) dan Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah. Hasil dapatan yang diperoleh mendapati peranan kakitangan akademik di IPT masih lagi di peringkat rendah. Ini kerana masih terdapat kekurangan dari aspek ilmu pengajaran dan keperluan yang diperlukan apabila berhadapan dengan pelajar OKU di IPT. Maka di dalam kajian ini, pengkaji akan merungkaikan cabaran dan peranan tenaga pengajar dalam merealisasikan pendidikan khas di peringkat IPT. Ini kerana jumlah kecacatan dijangka meningkat, oleh itu, sangat penting untuk lebih banyak program intervensi dan perbincangan menyeluruh disokong meningkatkan kesedaran kurang upaya dalam kalangan masyarakat.
