Quranic and Prophetic Guidance for People with Special Needs: Epilepsy as a Case Study

This research presents, through discussion and analysis, the Quranic and Prophetic guidance for dealing with individuals of special needs: epilepsy. This research is of particular importance given the continued prevalence of epilepsy today without a complete and definitive cure, and because Prophetic medicine contains precise guidelines for managing these cases. The problem statement lies in the researchers' failure to pay attention to prophetic guidance and their classification of epilepsy as a spiritual disease. The researcher employed a descriptive-analytical approach to interpret the relevant verses and hadiths aiming to derive principles within the framework of Prophetic medicine for dealing with those suffering from epileptic fits. The research reached several important conclusions, including: the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him didn’t pray for epilepsy patients to be cured with a divine will but rather to be patient and receive the reward of Paradise, His recommendation based on precise medical wisdom; epilepsy is not a mental or psychological disability like schizophrenia, but rather a physical ailment that can be managed with accurate diagnosis and adherence to a specific medication and dietary regimen; and Quranic and Prophetic guidance constitutes an important resource in diagnosing and managing the condition through patience and consistent follow-up.

ملخص البحث
يعرضُ هذا البحث بالمناقشة والتَّحليل التَّوجيهات القرآنيَّة والنَّبويَّة للتَّعامُل مع حالةٍ من حالات ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصَّة وهي حالةُ الصَّرع؛ ولهذا البحث أهميَّةٌ خاصَّة نظراً لانتشار حالات الصَّرع إلى يومنا هذا دون أنْ يكون لها علاجٌ كامل ونهائيّ ولاشتمال الطِّبِّ النَّبويّ على توجيهاتٍ دقيقة للتَّعامُل مع هذه الحالات. وإشكالية البحث تكمن في عدم التفات الباحثين إلى التَّوجيهات النبوية وعد الصَّرع من الأمراض الروحانية. واتَّبعَ الباحثُ المنهجَ الوصفيّ التَّحليليّ في تأويل الآيات والأحاديث الواردة بهذا الخُصُوص والهدف هو استخلاص قواعدَ ضمن إطار الطِّبِّ النَّبويّ للتَّعامُل مع المصابين بنوبات الصَّرع. وتوصَّل البحثُ إلى بعض النَّتائج المهمَّة، منها: اختيارُ النَّبيّ صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم لمريض الصَّرع الصَّبرَ ونيل ثواب الجنَّة كان لحكمةٍ طبيَّة دقيقة؛ الصَّرعُ ليس إعاقةً عقليةً أو نفسيَّةً كالانفصام بل هو داءٌ بدنيّ يمكن السَّيطرة عليه بدقَّة التَّشخيص واتِّباع نظامٍ دوائيّ وغذائيّ محدَّد، وتشكِّل التَّوجيهاتُ القُرآنيَّة والنَّبويَّة مصدراً مهماً في تشخيص العلَّة والسَّيطرة عليها بالصَّبر والمتابعة.
