Abstract

Qālūn narration is one of the mutawātirah narrations in the recitation of the Quran which is still widely practised particularly in the North African region. This narration possesses several forms of diacritical markings (ḍabṭ) that differ from the Ḥafṣ narration due to its own particular school in Quran manuscript printing. These differences pose challenges in the production of Braille Quran manuscripts as the existing Braille coding system has yet to be specifically standardised to fulfil the marking requirements of the Qālūn narration. This study aims to discuss issues related to Braille markings in the Quran manuscript of Qālūn narration by examining the background of the Qālūn Braille manuscript, the Braille marking codes employed, as well as the need for the standardisation and restructuring of Braille codes. This study adopts a qualitative approach through document analysis involving several printed Quran manuscripts and Braille Quran manuscripts of Qālūn narration. The findings indicate that there are several limitations in the use of existing Braille codes, particularly in representing certain marking elements in the Qālūn narration. This situation demonstrates the need for a more systematic restructuring of Braille codes in line with the markings of printed Quran manuscripts in order to assist readers among the visually impaired community.

Abstrak

Riwayat Qālūn merupakan salah satu riwayat mutawatirah dalam bacaan al-Quran yang masih diamalkan secara meluas khususnya di wilayah Afrika Utara. Riwayat ini mempunyai beberapa bentuk penandaan (ḍabṭ) yang berbeza berbanding riwayat Hafs kerana mempunyai mazhab yang tertentu dalam percetakan mashaf. Perbezaan tersebut memberikan cabaran dalam penghasilan mashaf al-Quran Braille kerana sistem kod Braille sedia ada masih belum diselaraskan secara khusus bagi memenuhi keperluan penandaan riwayat Qālūn. Kajian ini bertujuan membincangkan isu penandaan Braille dalam mashaf al-Quran riwayat Qālūn dengan meneliti latar belakang mashaf Braille Qālūn, kod penandaan Braille yang digunakan serta keperluan terhadap penyelarasan dan penstrukturan semula kod Braille. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui analisis dokumen terhadap beberapa mashaf al-Quran bercetak dan mashaf Braille riwayat Qālūn. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa terdapat beberapa kekangan dalam penggunaan kod Braille sedia ada khususnya dalam mewakili elemen penandaan tertentu dalam riwayat Qālūn. Keadaan ini menunjukkan keperluan kepada satu bentuk penstrukturan semula kod Braille yang lebih sistematik dan selaras dengan penandaan mashaf al-Quran bercetak bagi membantu pembaca dalam kalangan OKU Penglihatan.
