Abstract

Tahfiz education in Malaysia has undergone dynamic growth, with numerous institutions offering Quran memorization programmes through both formal and informal pathways. Despite the introduction of various memorization methods, many students continue to encounter challenges in completing their memorization within the expected timeframe. In response to this issue, the Akademi al-Quran Amalillah (AKMAL) introduced the Speed Tahfiz Program, an intensive memorization approach designed to produce huffaz within one year. This study aims to analyse the Speed Tahfiz Program’s approach as a mechanism for enhancing memorization performance among students at AKMAL, Shah Alam. A qualitative research design employing a case study approach was utilized, involving semi-structured interviews with administrators and teachers, alongside observations of teaching practices and document analysis. The data were analysed descriptively. Findings indicate that the Speed Tahfiz approach is grounded in the Deobandi method, with emphasis on three core components: sabaq (new memorization), sabqi (revision of current juzʾ), and manzil (revision of previous juzʾ). The programme’s effectiveness is further strengthened through tasbit practices, spot tests, and motivational strategies such as the Pomodoro technique, memorization campaigns, and a Ranking Board system. In conclusion, the integration of traditional methods with modern innovations effectively supports students in maintaining focus, strengthening discipline, and achieving solid memorization mastery within less than a year. The study recommends that this approach be refined and expanded to other tahfiz institutions as an innovative initiative in Malaysia’s tahfiz education landscape.

Abstrak
Pendidikan tahfiz di Malaysia berkembang secara dinamik dengan pelbagai institusi menawarkan program hafazan secara formal mahupun tidak formal.  Walaupun pelbagai kaedah hafazan telah diperkenalkan, sebahagian pelajar masih menghadapi cabaran untuk menamatkan hafazan dalam tempoh yang disasarkan. Sebagai respons kepada isu ini, Akademi al-Quran Amalillah (AKMAL) memperkenalkan Speed Tahfiz Program, iaitu pendekatan hafazan intensif yang bertujuan melahirkan huffaz dalam tempoh setahun. Kajian ini bertujuan menganalisis pendekatan program Speed Tahfiz sebagai mekanisme peningkatan prestasi hafazan dalam kalangan pelajar di AKMAL, Shah Alam. Reka bentuk kajian kualitatif dengan pendekatan kajian kes digunakan, melibatkan temu bual separa berstruktur bersama pentadbir dan guru, di samping pemerhatian pengajaran serta analisis dokumen. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif. Dapatan menunjukkan bahawa pendekatan Speed Tahfiz dibangunkan berasaskan kaedah Deobandi dengan penekanan terhadap tiga komponen utama, iaitu sabaq (hafazan baharu), sabqi (ulangan juzuk semasa) dan manzil (ulangan juzuk lama). Keberkesanan program diperkukuh melalui proses tasbit, ujian tebuk, dan strategi motivasi seperti teknik Pomodoro, kempen hafazan dan sistem Ranking Board. Kesimpulannya, gabungan kaedah tradisional dan inovasi moden ini berkesan membantu pelajar meningkatkan fokus, disiplin dan penguasaan hafazan dalam tempoh kurang daripada setahun. Kajian mencadangkan agar pendekatan ini diperkemas dan diperluaskan ke institusi tahfiz lain sebagai inisiatif inovatif dalam pendidikan tahfiz di Malaysia.
