This study explores the experiences of Qur’anic reading among individuals with visual impairments, focusing on their spiritual practices and adaptive strategies in sustaining consistent engagement with the Qur’an. Although the Braille Qur’an has been introduced in Malaysia for decades, its mastery remains limited, leading most visually impaired individuals to rely on memorisation, audio recordings, and assistive technologies such as digital devices and MP3 players. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with five visually impaired residents of Rumah Bakti Kulim. Thematic analysis was utilised to identify emerging patterns and underlying meanings. The findings revealed three dominant themes: (i) the use of memorisation and audio as primary reading strategies, (ii) the selective recitation of specific surahs such as al-Mulk, Yasin, and al-Sajdah based on memorisation ease and spiritual value, and (iii) consistent reading routines twice daily after the dawn (Subuh) and sunset (Maghrib) prayers as a form of spiritual discipline. The study underscores the importance of developing an inclusive Qur’anic education framework that integrates Braille literacy training, assistive technology, and community involvement to strengthen both Qur’anic literacy and spiritual well-being among the visually impaired.

Abstrak
Kajian ini meneliti pengalaman membaca al-Quran dalam komuniti Orang Kurang Upaya (OKU) penglihatan dengan memberi tumpuan kepada dimensi amalan rohani dan strategi adaptif yang digunakan bagi mengekalkan kesinambungan bacaan. Walaupun mushaf Braille telah lama diperkenalkan di Malaysia, tahap penguasaannya masih rendah, menyebabkan sebahagian besar OKU penglihatan bergantung kepada hafalan, rakaman audio, dan teknologi bantu seperti peranti digital dan MP3. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif melalui temu bual separa berstruktur bersama lima penghuni Rumah Bakti Kulim yang berstatus OKU penglihatan. Data dianalisis menggunakan kaedah analisis tematik bagi mengenal pasti corak dan makna yang mendasari pengalaman mereka. Dapatan menunjukkan tiga tema utama: (i) penggunaan hafalan dan audio sebagai strategi utama bacaan, (ii) kecenderungan membaca surah pilihan seperti al-Mulk, Yasin, dan al-Sajdah atas faktor hafalan dan makna spiritual, dan (iii) amalan rutin membaca dua kali sehari selepas solat Subuh dan Maghrib sebagai bentuk disiplin rohani. Kajian ini menegaskan keperluan pendekatan pendidikan al-Quran yang lebih inklusif dengan menggabungkan latihan Braille, penggunaan teknologi bantu, dan penglibatan komuniti bagi memperkukuh literasi serta kesejahteraan rohani OKU penglihatan.
